Overseas Chinese Academy of Chiway Suzhou

Teacher Recruitment 2020/21

Introduction

Overseas Chinese Academy of Chiway (OCAC) is a series of schools catering to the educational needs of the children of overseas Chinese professionals who return to China to live and work. With Chinese origins and global originality, OCAC is committed to developing creativity, innovation and originality,  enabling our students to deal with the international challenges of the 21st century in cooperation with young people from other countries.

Founded in 2016, Overseas Chinese Academy of Chiway Suzhou (OCAC Suzhou) is the first school in the world specifically designed to cater to the international education needs of the children of overseas Chinese returnees. From August 2017, OCAC Suzhou offered classes in Grades 1 to 5 for 280 students who were competitively selected. From August 2020, we will have classes from Pre K to G12 over 2000 students. OCAC Suzhou is located in Suzhou, the ‘Venice of the Orient’, about 30 minutes by high-speed train from Shanghai.

The school is at an exciting stage of development and has great aspirations! We are seeking to employ outstanding individuals who share our vision and mission and can make the most of these unique opportunities.

Vision and Mission:

Our Vision:

We aspires to become a model of Chinese International Education.

Our Mission:

With Chinese origins and global originality, we cultivate life-long learners to meet the global challenges of the twenty-first century..

The School and the Student

Currently around half of the 1500 students are the children of overseas Chinese returnees, of whom around 90% have obtained Masters degrees or above from their own overseas studies. Admission to the school in Suzhou was competitive and based on OCAC selection criteria.

All students in K-5 are day students, while students in lower secondary will have the option of being day or boarding students. All students in the high school (Grade 10-12) will be boarding students who can go home on weekends.

Educational Programme

OCAC Suzhou provides 12-15 years of continuous K-12 dual-language education, emphasizing the development of both Chinese and English as students’ mother tongues. The OCAC curriculum draws from both the East and the West – established on the basis of the Chinese national curriculum, characterized by western innovative curricula, and integrated within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.

The education of students over and beyond their academic lessons is a defining characteristic of an OCAC education. Supporting this philosophy are the number and breadth of opportunities provided for OCAC students for learning outside the classroom.  There is a particular focus on activities that promote understanding of China and Chinese culture and initiatives that develop innovation and creativity.

The residential program is an integral part of the overall educational experience for the high school students. Students from different backgrounds live together in 4-person dormitories on campus under the care and guidance of Houses Mentors and other staff. High school teachers live on campus and are part of the residential community.
