Job Description

In collaboration with the teacher, the assistant teacher:
1. works under direct supervision/instruction to promote and safeguard the welfare of students for whom they are responsible or with whom they come into contact
2. works with small groups or one to one 
3. undertakes general clerical/organizational support for the teacher

Support the teacher by:
1. Preparing the classroom as requested for lessons and clearing afterwards 
2. Assisting with the display of students’ work 
3. Being aware of student problems/progress/achievements and reporting these to the teacher as agreed 
4. Undertaking student record keeping as requested 
5. Being aware of/working within planned learning activities 
6. Occasional contribution to planning e.g. for individual students, general literacy/numeracy 
7. Working with the teacher in managing student behavior and reporting difficulties as appropriate 
8. Gathering/reporting information from/to parents/careers as directed 
9. Providing clerical/administrative support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money etc.

Supporting students by
1. Supervising and providing support for students, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning 
2. Attending to students’ personal needs, and implementing related personal programs, including social, health, physical, hygiene which may include intimate care, first aid and welfare matters
3. Establishing good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs 
4. Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all students 
5. Encouraging students to interact with others and to engage in activities led by the teacher 
6. Encouraging students to act independently as appropriate

Support the curriculum by
1. Supporting students to understand instructions 
2. Supporting students in respect of local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, early years etc. as directed by the teacher 
3. Supporting students using ICT as directed 
4. Preparing and maintaining equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assisting students in their use

Support the school by
1. Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to student protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, and reporting all concerns to an appropriate person 
2. Being aware of and supporting difference and ensuring all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop 
3. Contributing to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school 
4. Appreciating and supporting the role of other professionals 
5. Attending relevant meetings as required 
6. Participating in training and other learning activities and performance development as required 
7. Assisting with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes as required 
8. Accompanying teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required

1. Competence to orally and verbally communicate with parents in a professional context
2. English language level for basic communication or a willingness to participate in English lessons
3. Attend teaching and researching activities organized by the local Education Bureau, the school and Dehong Education
4. Embrace the education of the whole person
5. Lead and/or support a minimum of one (1) co-curricular activity 
6. Attend and participate constructively in staff meetings
7. Participate (including preparing students/activities) in the wider life of the school, such as assemblies, celebrations, extra-curricular events and so on
8. Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices around the network and participate in group-wide events as appropriate
9. Support service learning and sustainability practices, events and programs
10. Other teaching and learning related tasks as determined by the Principal

Person Specifications
1. Qualifications: Teaching qualification or evidence of experience of working with children/students/Pass of CET-4 minimum/College graduate
2. Knowledge: An understanding of child development/An understanding of the needs of young children/Strong commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children
3. Experience: At least one year’s experience of working with children of the relevant age range in a learning environment
4. Competencies and other skills required: Good ICT skills/Ability to work in a team/Willingness to engage with new technology/Good communication skills in English and willingness to improve/Enthusiasm and optimism/Professional and hardworking
