Job Description

Reporting to: Head of School

Line manages: N/A

Liaison with: Tutors, Middle School Teachers, House Parents, IB Programme Coordinators; EAL team; SEN team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that safeguarding, health and safety, and all other College policies are known, understood and embedded into practice;
  2. To be responsible for planning and facilitating creative and engaging learning, in a highly inclusive environment;
  3. To be able to use formative assessment to inform planning and deliver a personalised curriculum for each child;
  4. To develop a nurturing and safe environment in which children thrive in their learning;
  5. To develop an environment of inquiry, where students’ questions are valued and lead their learning journey;
  6. To develop excellent relationships with parents and the wider community, through regular and effective communication;
  7. To have and develop further a range of techniques to cater for English Language Learners;
  8. To deliver appropriately-planned lessons, learning encounters, sequences of lessons and programmes of study;
  9. To have a detailed and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of examination board assessment and syllabus requirements;
  10. To offer regular and constructive feedback to help students close the gap between where they are now, and where they wish to be;
  11. To challenge each pupil to be the best they can be, supporting them to reach their full potential;
  12. To be committed to the ongoing development of a holistic, child-centred curriculum, drawing on best practice from around the world;
  13. Have a keen focus the approaches to learning taken by students, creating an engaging learning environment where they can learn independently, challenge their own thinking, think creatively and solve problems;
  14. Ensure that the learning environment is a place of full inclusivity, differentiating learning to support individual needs;
  15. Maintain marking and assessment records and have a clear understanding of pupils’ progress in learning;
  16. Demonstrate proactive and positive ways of supporting students where barriers are found;
  17. Effectively support each student’s personal, social and emotional development;
  18. Take an active role as a Personal Tutor to a group of tutees within a school Grade;
  19. Participate fully in the life of the school, including actively supporting co- curricular activities (Enrichment) and Boarding House life;
  20. Engage in positive behaviour management to ensure a caring and respectful environment;
  21. To teach as required across the full age range of Middle and Senior School (Grades 6-12) including assisting with Primary School subject teaching on occasion;
  22. Possess a genuine passion for subject.

Professional Development:

  1. Engage in effective self- review of professional practice, within teams and with the support of the School Leadership Team
  2. Show an awareness of current pedagogy and curriculum development in internationally education;
  3. Always aim to push the professional limits and to try something new;
  4. Show accountability by setting professional learning targets according to the developmental needs of the school and College

Specific Teaching/Career Certificates Required

  • A degree and recognised teaching qualification, postgraduate Diploma/Higher degree in education is preferred

  • Evidence of relevant continual professional development
  • A minimum of 2 years classroom experience

  • Experience of IGCSE in chosen subject, with experience of A Level and IBDP an advantage

  • Willingness to develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and CNC

  • An ability to promote each students’s learning through constant formative assessment within the classroom

  • Effective use of ICT in all aspects of learning and teaching

  • Understanding and commitment to safeguarding children

  • Involvement in co-curricular programmes

  • Experience of working in an international school is preferred

  • Experience of teaching through Inquiry, and having a good understanding of what this means/ looks like in the classroom is preferred

  • Willingness to participate in, though not necessarily experience of, full boarding life.
